Sicily’s new transport construction initiative that aims to improve regional mobility is serving as a pilot site for Italferr’s implementation of digital construction monitoring and management. Italferr sought to use 4D BIM-based construction monitoring to improve efficiency and transparency on construction projects across Italy. However, after evaluating numerous alternatives to digitize site management, they found these applications limited in terms of integration, automation, and compatibility with their existing BIM workflows.

Leveraging Bentley SYNCHRO enabled Italferr to create 4D BIM models and a digital twin. Compared to traditional planning, working in a collaborative construction management platform is expected to reduce design errors by 30% and construction time by 22%, saving an estimated EUR 12 million in costs. Bentley’s integrated applications optimized site logistics, reducing carbon emissions by 800 tons. The 4D digital twin can be replicated, contributing to the modernization of transport infrastructure and digitalization of the construction sector, nationally and internationally.
