Sitting on 36 acres of waterfront property in Chula Vista, California, the 2-million-square-foot Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center will provide an estimated USD 5 million annual boost to the local economy. Mortenson and McCarthy (M&M) partnered to deliver the massive project and faced technical and coordination challenges, compounded by a tight 36-month construction timeline. To optimize planning and meet the accelerated project schedule, they realized they needed robust construction management and simulation technology.

M&M selected Bentley SYNCHRO to create a 4D model and made it mandatory for the entire project team and trade partners to use the software. Incorporating the interior and safety works into the 4D model provided all trades a visual understanding of work sequencing and materials staging to better understand their roles and where they fit into the overall construction schedule. Using Bentley’s application streamlined coordination, promoting a unified approach to construction that enabled M&M to finish construction on the west coast’s largest hotel project six weeks ahead of schedule.
