Transformative use of digital technology to make cities more climate-resilient. Using connected data, AI and/or digital twins to anticipate environmental or climate risks and enable earlier action.

Project summary

As a public agency and owner-operator, CAPBP realized that they had to advance from static visualization toward climate-resilient city operations. Urban data was growing rapidly in volume, variety, and velocity, yet information related to heat, air quality, noise, traffic, weather, mobility, and assets remained fragmented across systems and departments. The lack of integration made high-frequency observations difficult to interpret, limiting proactive climate adaptation and sustainability efforts. Without a shared geospatial context and intra-organization coordination, teams struggled to assess climate risks and maintenance priorities collectively.

Using Bentley Enterprise Connection Services (BECS), iTwin, and OpenCities, CAPBP connected more than 70 sensors with mobility, environmental, weather, and infrastructure data in a hybrid digital twin common data environment. The workflow provides near-real-time visibility and scenario simulation, supporting the potential for lowering climate-related losses by up to 60% and making decision-making up to 100 times faster.
