Project summary

The Chongqing Yunyang Jianquan Pumped Storage Digital Power Station is a 1,200-megawatt energy infrastructure project supporting the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle and China’s dual-carbon goals. The project team led full lifecycle, BIM-forward design and digital twin construction while managing 67 underground caverns, 23 kilometers of cavern length, high surrounding rock stability risk, over 10 million square meters of excavation, and zero wastewater discharge requirements near the Xiaojiang Wetland Nature Reserve.

Using Bentley applications, the team created an integrated BIM, digital twin, and AI construction workflow for site selection, multidiscipline modeling, clash detection, simulation, and progress monitoring. The workflow reduced the feasibility study from 18 to 9 months, advanced underground powerhouse construction by 4 to 5 months, saved 378,000 work hours, and reduced carbon emissions by 560 tons while achieving zero wastewater discharge.
