The PTA Sutherland St. Load Upgrade project aims to support Perth’s growing electricity demands and ensure reliable power supply for transport operations. APD Global was engaged to design the new Bunning Lake substation and secondary electrical equipment at the existing Sutherland St. substation. Faced with technical, coordination, and communication challenges, they realized that their past design processes lacked the collaboration, integration, and visualization capabilities to successfully deliver the project.
Leveraging Bentley’s reality modeling and integrated 3D digital design applications with Bentley ProjectWise, APD established a connected data environment and digital twin, streamlining workflows, collaboration among the civil and structural design teams, and communication with stakeholders. The integrated solution enabled them to reduce project delivery time and costs, each by 15%. Through advanced visualization using the digital twin, APD improved communication with stakeholders and optimized design, reducing material waste and energy usage, contributing to a reduction in the project’s carbon footprint.
