Power Line Systems
To help reduce unnecessary pole replacements, control costs, and support smarter grid modernization, Aquawolf initiated a pilot project for a western utility client proposing new data capture and pole analysis processes. Traditional utility workflows rely on simplified, budget-friendly, third-party analysis methods that lack precision to evaluate real-world conditions, resulting in potential over-design or premature pole replacements. Rather than reduce modeling quality to control budget, Aquawolf sought to reengineer the front-end survey process.
Leveraging Bentley Power Line Systems, Aquawolf developed a streamlined 3D data capture and modeling process for 20 previously analyzed structures, resulting in more accurate structural analysis in 60% to 75% less time compared to legacy workflows. The automated Bentley-based workflow enabled robust modeling and analysis for more-informed decision-making, revealing false-positive replacements that avoided unnecessary pole replacements estimated to save potential costs of over USD 2.5 million annually. Aquawolf’s successful digital workflow helped the utility make smarter, faster, more cost-effective asset decisions, supporting both network resilience and ratepayer value.
