SKANSKA COSTAIN STRABAG JV is delivering the final 26.4-kilometer stretch of High Speed 2 from Northolt to Euston in London, with about 95% of the route underground. The project includes complex tunneling, shafts, bridges, and related infrastructure. The team had to coordinate over 75,000 activities and 1.5 million 3D elements. Traditional spreadsheets and static presentations could not provide enough clarity for sequencing and execution risk.
Using Bentley-enabled connected 4D planning, SCSJV rehearsed high-risk work and compared sequencing options before field execution. SYNCHRO 4D Pro supported real-time simulations and optioneering, while Bentley Open applications connected project data and models. The approach supported a 16% schedule reduction on one asset, enabled £23.8 million in cost avoidance, helped achieve a TBM launch six months ahead of plan, and supported the reuse of nearly 2 million tonnes of excavated earth.
