The Hunan Quanmutang Reservoir project addresses a century-long water shortage across the Hengshao-Lou drought corridor while supporting irrigation, water supply, flood control, and power generation. Hunan Provincial Water Resources and Hydropower Survey, Design, Planning, and Research Institute led survey, design, BIM implementation, and digital twin delivery for a system spanning four cities, eight counties, 753.34 million square meters of farmland, and 223 kilometers of canals. The team faced fragmented lifecycle data and complex multisource dispatch across more than 120 reservoirs.
Using Bentley applications, the institute connected BIM, GIS, collaboration, construction management, and operations in a full lifecycle digital environment. The team eliminated more than 2,100 design issues, increased review efficiency by 42%, reduced rework by 47%, shortened construction time by 10%, and raised irrigation water supply guarantees from 75% to 95%. The digital twin improves dispatch and helps secure water for farmland and nearly a million people.
