Project summary

The I-95 Central Access Philadelphia (CAP) project aims to create an 11.5-acre civic park and improve multimodal riverside access, reconnecting the city to its Delaware River waterfront. Pennoni is leading a team of 21 subconsultants to deliver the project that includes designing a complex bridge structure while maintaining required vertical clearances and minimizing impact to highway travelers and adjacent historic properties. To address these coordination and technical challenges on a fast-tracked schedule, Pennoni needed integrated and advanced modeling and analysis technology.

Leveraging Bentley ProjectWise with its open civil modeling and structural analysis applications, Pennoni established a connected digital design environment, enabling the team to visualize, coordinate, and timely execute this iconic project. The integrated solution reduced time to verify bridge clearances by 100%, facilitated accurate cost and quantity estimations, and saved 50% in modeling time for civil and highway design. Through digital modeling, the team artistically and sustainably accommodated site conditions and structural requirements to help reshape the urban fabric of Philadelphia.
