Bentley LumenRT, MicroStation, OpenRail, OpenRoads, ProjectWise, SYNCHRO
To help reduce travel times, and improve the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of freight and passenger transport in Sicily, Italferr is working as the contracting authority to upgrade 185 kilometers along the Palermo-Catania-Messina rail connection. The multidiscipline project presented coordination and data integration challenges with managing and verifying more than 9,800 information models. Italferr needed a cloud-based technology solution to guarantee data traceability and accessibility throughout the design verification process.
Leveraging Bentley ProjectWise with iTwin and SYNCHRO, Italferr established a common web-based data platform, integrated 3D information model, and digital twin to perform 4D construction simulation and verify the design relative to the project schedule. Working in a collaborative digital environment reduced data loss associated with file and model exchange by 95%. Using Bentley’s applications saved 80% in time through real-time model updates and helped eliminate more than 4,500 design interferences during the verification phase.
