Project summary

Entergy needed multi-gigawatt, redundant power delivered to one of the largest data center campuses in the Americas, with less than two years to build the transmission infrastructure required to support it. Ampirical led engineering for the USD 374 million corridor, which included a 500-kilovolt cut-in to a live line and substation, removal of legacy lattice towers and H-frames, construction of more than 250 new structures, installation of nearly 700,000 feet of conductor and 180,000 feet of fiber, and 230-kilovolt lines looping six substations. The project’s complexity was heightened by dense crossings, immovable energization dates, and route or structure layouts that could change within days.

To maintain schedule certainty in this rapidly evolving environment, Ampirical leveraged Bentley’s Power Line Systems applications to use a single digital model encompassing both voltage systems. By replacing manual, siloed iterations with automated design intelligence, system-wide updates were completed in days rather than weeks, and a fully developed design was delivered in months rather than years. The resulting looped configurations removed single points of failure, strengthening resiliency and securing reliable power for both the hyperscale campus and the wider Louisiana grid.
