ACCIONA is part of an alliance that is delivering the M80 Ring Road Completion as part of the Victorian Government’s North East Link program, adding 14 kilometers of new lanes, 10 kilometers of walking and cycling paths, and landscaped bridges that will promote active transport and improve urban accessibility and community connectivity. The project’s large scale, multiple disciplines, and simultaneous design and construction works presented coordination, planning, and scheduling challenges. To streamline workflows and manage these dynamic conditions, ACCIONA realized that they required a more integrated digital, visual approach than past methods allowed.
Leveraging Bentley ProjectWise, iTwin Capture, and SYNCHRO, ACCIONA established a connected data environment and 4D digital twin model, accessible in real-time for dynamic planning and collaboration, crucial for concurrent design and construction. Bentley’s applications reduced model creation and analysis time by 75%. Based on benchmarked results from the Yando West Bridge section, ACCIONA estimates saving 22 weeks of rework as well as significant cost savings. The digital twin provides the foundation for the roadway’s future asset information model.
