Project summary
Vilnius retained DRONETEAM to deliver a 3D city-scale photogrammetry and reality modeling project for the Lithuanian capital. Previous drone-based surveys and city modeling proved labor-intensive, requiring changing short-lived batteries and maintaining drone operations. DRONETEAM wanted to develop an automated data collection and reality modeling solution to increase 3D modeling efficiencies not only for cities, but also for infrastructure, agriculture, security, and other applications that require continuous 3D scanning. They developed their fully autonomous drone station known as DBOX but sought reality modeling technology to streamline data collection and process into an accurate 3D-city reality mesh.Powered by iTwin Capture Modeler, DRONETEAM’s DBOX solution seamlessly captures high-resolution imagery, while advanced algorithms in Bentley’s application transform the raw data into precise 3D models. Integrating LumenRT, OpenCities, and ProjectWise, DRONETEAM saved 30% in annual work hours, equivalent to the cost of three full-time personnel. The digital innovation sets new standards, promoting efficiency, collaboration, and sustainability, reducing carbon emissions and minimizing disruption to communities.
