Project summary

Multidiscipline engineering firm Brown and Caldwell sought to advance their BIM processes and embrace a digital twin approach to improve collaboration and data flow. Previously, they exported models from various applications, which took up to 10 to 12 hours a week on large projects. They faced challenges integrating many disparate design tools, as well as maintaining data application from design through construction, operations, and maintenance. They sought an interoperable modeling platform in a connected data environment.Brown and Caldwell selected OpenPlant and PlantSight to provide a digital twin solution that was compatible with their preferred software to meet client deliverables. Working in an integrated, real-time collaborative environment improved design review, resulting in more robust change management and control over project delivery. Through advanced digitalization and collaboration, they illustrated the value of maintaining the models beyond construction and into operations, while lowering construction changes by more than 5%, and anticipating savings of up to USD 7 million in construction costs.
