Project summary

The Caiziba pumped-storage power station is the first large-scale pumped storage project in China’s complex karst area. Located amid extensive karst formations, including caves and fissures, the project presented significant site challenges, compounded by technical and coordination issues. Previous traditional design and modeling applications resulted in data fragmentation and workflow bottlenecks. To address these shortcomings, the project team realized that they needed an integrated, dynamic technology solution.

Leveraging Bentley’s 3D modeling, digital twin, and construction simulation technology, the team established a collaborative digital platform and standardized component library, streamlining workflows and achieving dynamic coupling of geological modeling and construction. Working in a coordinated design environment eliminated 1,850 conflicts to avoid rework costs of approximately CNY 4.5 million. The integrated digital twin solution shortened the construction period by 42 days and optimized steel and concrete usage, reducing carbon emissions by 11,110 tons to deliver intelligent green infrastructure that supports regional clean energy transformation.
