Project summary
Located within a productive, high-temperature geothermal system on the volcanic island of Dominica, the 10-megawatt Lauadat power plant at Roseau Valley will supply approximately 50% of the island’s peak electricity demand, replacing fossil fuel-based energy with clean geothermal power and lowering electricity costs. Ormat is delivering the project and faced data integration and interoperability challenges using traditional geoscience methods. They realized that they needed comprehensive and cohesive technology to dynamically link geoscientific insights with engineering design.
Ormat selected Bentley’s integrated geothermal modeling and analysis applications to build a geologically sound model, simulate complex reservoir and surface interactions, and directly inform design engineers with real-time data. Working in a connected digital environment saved at least 660 engineering hours and approximately 70 meters of piping material. Through numerical modeling, Ormat reduced the risk of drilling for additional wells, saving over USD 10 million per well. The project sets a benchmark for driving sustainable solutions in the face of climate change.
