Project summary

As part of the Hong Kong government’s efforts to create a smart city for improved urban planning and development and disaster management, they initiated a 3D digital mapping project. They selected Kowloon East as the first area to produce CityGML models of the buildings and infrastructure. Avineon India was responsible for processing and generating the 3D city models but faced challenges when integrating voluminous multisourced data into accurate representations of city infrastructure in a single digital environment. They needed a connected data capture, processing, and 3D modeling solution.Avineon selected iTwin Capture Modeler and MicroStation to process and generate the CityGML models. Working in Bentley’s unified platform enabled seamless integration of different attribute data in various formats, improving data consistency and model accuracy. The applications saved 20% in processing time and 15% in costs while reducing the carbon footprint by 5%. The attribute-based spatial objects in the 3D digital map provide the core components in the next generation of geospatial application for the greater benefit of the community.
