Project summary
One of the final segments in New South Wales’ Pacific Highway upgrade, Coffs Harbour bypass will remove over 12,000 vehicles daily from local roads, reduce travel times, and improve safety. The critical corridor is comprised of major tunnels, multiple bridges and interchanges, and 12 kilometers of dual carriageway. Digital engineering lead Arcadis faced challenges coordinating over 15 design partners, compounded by accommodating steep terrain, varying geology, and environmentally sensitive areas that traditional workflows failed to address.
Arcadis leveraged Bentley ProjectWise and iTwin applications to establish a connected data environment and digital twin, and integrated Bentley’s open civil and geotechnical modeling applications along with SYNCHRO to perform collaborative 3D design and construction simulation. The integrated digital solution saved 366,000 work hours and approximately AUD 5 million in potential rework costs. Through accurate modeling, Arcadis reduced carbon emissions by an estimated 580 tons. The project sets a national benchmark for digital engineering, supporting smarter, leaner, and resilient project delivery.
