Project summary

As part of Bangladesh’s strategic plan to provide sustainable transport, accommodating the growing urban population in the capital city of Dhaka, three mass transit systems have been proposed, the first of which is MRT-1. Upon completion, MRT-1 will be the country’s first underground metro line. RISE is designing the stations along MRT-1 and faced challenges given the unique steel roof geometry and interaction with and transmission of stresses in the reinforced concrete structures. To deliver the multidiscipline design and ensure compatibility of the different station elements, RISE needed to perform accurate digital structural simulation and analysis.

They selected STAAD and STAAD Advanced Concrete Design to model and analyze the steel roof structure and reinforced concrete stresses, establishing a collaborative digital environment while optimizing structural design in accordance with relevant design codes. Bentley’s integrated structural modeling and analysis software improved data synchronization by 50% and reduced modeling time by 30%. RISE saved 10% to 15% in concrete volume, reducing the carbon footprint of the project, and completed the designs on schedule allowing for construction to begin in February 2023.
