Project summary
As part of developing a smart campus ecosystem, KTU is building a digital twin to evaluate, monitor, and manage building energy consumption to improve the operational carbon footprint of the university’s buildings. The project required aggregating, integrating, and updating large amounts of multisourced data to generate a campus digital twin of the existing building premises, equipment, and infrastructure. To achieve this goal, KTU needed an open modeling and analysis platform.
KTU selected Bentley iTwin Capture and OpenBuildings to create 3D models and a digital twin of the campus’ built environment. Bentley OpenCities provided a unified platform to integrate various digital outputs and AI, offering real-time visual insight to monitor and analyze the university’s energy consumption and carbon emissions. Working in an open digital environment, decision makers can identify specific components of the campus buildings’ operational carbon footprint and provide solutions, such as solar power plants and electrical vehicle charging, which have already reduced carbon emissions by 11%.
