Project summary
The new high-voltage station Schiphol-Centrum aims to create a central energy hub for Schiphol Airport, adding more grid capacity for the airport terminals and facilities while contributing to the airport’s carbon neutrality goals. BAM is responsible for civil and electrical construction works and faced space constraints, limiting on-site logistics and creating safety concerns. To address these challenges, they sought to prioritize 4D buildability, logistics, and safety, and needed advanced construction simulation technology.
BAM selected Bentley SYNCHRO to link the project model to the construction schedule, creating an integrated 4D visual, phased construction plan. By digitally planning and simulating on-site works, they optimized logistics and temporary setups, reducing transport movement by 25%, improving safety, and saving emissions and costs. Working in a connected digital platform enabled them to identify and avoid 85 planning and safety risks, resulting in zero safety incidents and a total savings of EUR 525,000. Bentley’s application reduced overall construction time by four months to complete the project more safely, sustainably, and cost-effectively.
