Project summary
Located in the Jilin province of China, this project involved designing and constructing an automotive stamping workshop, featuring a dual flying wing automatic layout and pioneering extensive automation technologies. Faced with strict design, safety, and space requirements, as well as managing multiple disciplines and processes on a short timeline, the engineering institute realized that traditional design methods lacked the advanced modeling, processing, and collaboration necessary to deliver the project. They needed collaborative BIM and digital twin technology.
The team selected Bentley ProjectWise and OpenBuildings to establish a connected digital design platform, 3D models, and a factory digital twin. Using Bentley’s applications facilitated collaborative design workflows, shortening the design schedule by 20 days and identifying and eliminating 2,460 clashes, equivalent to saving CNY 5 million in costs. Working in an integrated design environment reduced construction changes by 85%. The project realized China’s first intelligent digital twin of an automotive stamping workshop, enabling real-time equipment monitoring and predictive maintenance, and setting an industry benchmark for development of future automobile factories.
