As part of a 10-year investment to create new facilities, the University of Birmingham is transforming its campus by renovating over 200 buildings covering 672 acres. The project requires a digital solution to manage the university’s current and as-built assets that support collaborative, secure delivery, transitioning from conceptualization to operation. With previous project and asset information housed in multiple disparate legacy systems managed by supply chain contractors, they had to establish a connected data environment.They relied on Bentley’s integrated platform that simplified and accelerated access to real-time information, exponentially improving decision-making. The solution enhanced transparency and collaboration with contractors and suppliers, mitigating risks of information loss and accelerating contractor handover of asset information from six months to one month. The application flexibility facilitated digitalization of information, supporting the entire project lifecycle. As part of their future vision, they plan to establish a digital twin to help manage campus infrastructure.
