Frequently asked questions

Submission resources

Submissions open in Q1 each year and remain open for several weeks. Check back in late January for exact dates.

Upload high resolution images and videos.

To complete your submission, include at least three supporting images and three supporting videos that represent your project clearly and credibly. If your project includes a digital twin or iModel, include visuals of both the physical asset and its digital representation.

If your project is selected as a finalist, these materials may also be used in large-format event graphics and promotional content. That makes quality critical. Submit the highest-resolution files available so they hold up across web, print, and presentation formats.

The jury reviews your visuals alongside your written submission, so choose assets that strengthen your story. Use clear, descriptive file names, following a consistent format such as “companyname-description-1.jpg”, and include a caption for each image. To submit additional or alternative file types, email [email protected] for guidance.

Make sure your images are as high-resolution as possible:

  • Renderings and/or photos: 9000×4500 pixels at 300dpi (150dpi minimum)
  • Screen shots: 16:9 ratio at largest screen possible
  • File formats: .png, .jpg, .tiff, .eps

Prioritize visuals that show the project itself, the asset in context, and the real-world result.

Images of the finished project, or realistic renderings of the near-finished outcome, tend to be more compelling than screenshots of software interfaces, charts, or presentation slides. Choose images that help the jury quickly understand what was built, why it matters, and what makes the work exceptional.

Videos should help the jury understand the scale of the project, the challenge you solved, and the value your work delivered. Use footage that is clear, purposeful, and easy to follow.

Prioritize strong visuals over heavy narration or dense slides. Show the asset, the context, and the results. If you include animation or motion graphics, make sure they support the story rather than distract from it.

Idea footage includes:

  • High-resolution videos of your project without any text or graphics overlays (our team will add courtesy text graphics for attribution).
  • Clean demo or software rendering screen recordings.
  • Finalists will be required to provide clean demo videos or software screen recordings for event-branded materials.

Technical specifications:

  • Resolution: 1920 × 1080 (Full HD), 16:9 aspect ratio.
  • Frame rate: Minimum 30 fps.
  • File formats: .mp4, .mov, or .avi.
  • Bitrate: Recommended 10–20 Mbps
  • (Higher bitrate = better quality, larger file size).

Important notes:

  • All submissions must meet these requirements or may not be accepted.
  • Ensure screen recordings are captured and exported using the above settings.

What the jury wants to see:

  • Your innovative use of digital advancements and other technology
  • How you overcame challenges, big and small
  • Quantitative metrics to demonstrate your positive outcomes
  • A sustainable way forward (economically and environmentally)

A strong submission is clear, specific, and grounded in results. The jury wants to understand the challenge, what your team did differently, how Bentley software was applied, and what measurable impact the project delivered.

The best submissions make complex work easy to follow. They use credible details, strong visuals, and outcome-based language. Focus on what changed because of your work: time saved, risk reduced, performance improved, cost avoided, or resilience gained.

What sets the strongest entries apart is clarity and proof. They do not rely on broad claims. They show ingenuity and explain the role of the technology, as well as demonstrate why the project stands out.

Submitting your project is the first step toward global recognition for the work your team has delivered. Every stage of the program gives participants greater visibility across the infrastructure community.

Plan to spend several days preparing your submission. While the form itself may not take long to fill out, gathering the right project details, visuals, and supporting materials usually takes more time.

The jury needs enough context to evaluate your project fairly, so the strongest entries are prepared carefully. Give yourself time to collect the right information, review your answers, and choose the visuals that best support your story.

Event details

Yes. The Going Digital Awards were renamed the YII Awards. Digital innovation is still at the heart of the program, but the new name better reflects what the awards truly represent: the extraordinary use of technology to deliver real-world impact.

After the projects are submitted, they are reviewed by an independent panel of jurors, using criteria specific to each category and according to these standards:

  • Provided quantitative, measurable, numeric data (where applicable).
  • Exhibited a sustainable way forward, both economically and environmentally.
  • Demonstrated innovative use of technology to meet project goals.
  • Connected disciplines and data to deliver stronger outcomes.

Three finalists are chosen in each of the 12 categories and invited to present their projects at the event before the juries and key members of the industry’s most influential press. The jurors will then make a final decision on the winners of each category, who will be announced at a gala celebration on the final day of the Year in Infrastructure Awards.
