Bentley LumenRT, Blyncsy, iTwin Capture, iTwin Experience, OpenRail, OpenTunnel, ProjectWise
To ensure passenger safety and operational efficiency along Italy’s Terzo Valico dei Giovi railway, Italferr was contracted to develop an advanced digital monitoring and detection system for the line’s Serravalle Tunnel. The project required integrating AI algorithms and creating a digital twin to automate structural defect detection and enable real-time tunnel monitoring. Faced with managing voluminous data across multiple platforms and various stakeholders, Italferr realized that previous digital applications lacked the flexibility and integration needed for an effective, collaborative, intelligent solution.
Italferr selected Bentley iTwin applications, OpenRail, and OpenTunnel to collect and process the data, streamline information sharing, and establish an intelligent digital twin, enabling continuous structural monitoring and predictive maintenance. The interoperability of Bentley’s applications facilitated the integration of advanced AI algorithms for automated anomaly detection. Working in Bentley’s synergetic digital ecosystem saved 15.9% in inspection times, compared to traditional workflows, while reducing environmental impact. The digital twin solution improved the quality, safety, and sustainability of this tunnel project.
